Interesting news came across my email this past week in that SUSE is acquiring Rancher for an undisclosed sum of money. According to Rancher, the deal should close around October of this year.
The CEO of SUSE posted this post about the merger and Sheng Liang, the CEO of Rancher posted this blurb as well.
Over the last couple of years we’ve seen several CNA related tech companies get acquired - NGINX by F5 for around $670 million, CoreOS by Red Hat for $250 million, Pivotal by VMWare for $2.7 billion to name a few. You add in some of the CNA security-related mergers and acquisitions over the past 18 months and this list would be tripled in size.
The CNA world is fast-moving. A lot of innovative startups are growing rapidly and the bigger, established players are buying them up to add their unique IP to their existing portfolio.
More changes are incoming. That’s part of life in IT. What you can control is how you (and your company) adapts to these new technologies and changes. Don’t be afraid of the new tech. IT is full of disruptive technologies. You just need to plan well and continue to learn!
